“Crosshatch effect” a pattern of intersecting, shadowy lines that resembles woven fabric. 

It is typical material such as this Flame-Fusion Synthetic Spinel. In fact, Crosshatching is a good way to differentiate synthetic from natural spinel under polariscope.
