  • Sri Lanka mines produce sapphire since ancient times, it has been well established by 1292, when Marco Polo first landed the Gem Island. To this day, it is still one of the most prominent sapphire producers in the world. The famous sapphire at the heart of Princess Diana's engagement ring is from Sri Lanka too.
