  • Gemological testing revealed characteristics consistent with those of Natural Star Sapphire from:
  • CountrySri Lanka
  • Sri Lanka mines produce sapphire since ancient times, it has been well established by 1292, when Marco Polo first landed the Gem Island. To this day, it is still one of the most prominent sapphire producers in the world. The famous sapphire at the heart of Princess Diana's engagement ring is from Sri Lanka too.

  • The UV-Vis-NIR spectrum of this sapphire shows iron-related absorption at 388nm and 450nm. And the absence of broad band at 880nm helps to distinguish the environment this sapphire was formed in.

  • The natural star sapphire mentioned in this report weighing 12.53 carats is a rare piece and possesses high visual quality with attractive cornflower blue color which treasured by many gemstone collectors. In addition of the color, it displays a fine and sharp asterism "star" phenomenon. Beyond its beauty, it is free from treatment. Based on these quality traits, it deserves our special mention and appreciation.
